A 15-year-old boy was struck by a car on Monday evening in West Seattle at Delridge Way SW and SW Genesee Street. The Seattle Fire Department described the crash as “severe.” Police have not yet said whether charges will be filed against the driver of the car.
The teenager was transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the accident. His condition was serious but not life-threatening.
According to a witness who spoke with the West Seattle Herald, the teenager appeared to be running to catch a bus when he was struck by the car. “The lights were all green, traffic was going but there was a bus at the bus stop, and he really wanted the bus.” The force of the impact smashed the windshield of the car that hit him and threw him into the air.
The intersection where the teenager was struck is a three-way intersection with pedestrian crossing markings and signals in all directions.
